Leaders need support
Leadership is a challenging, high intensity and sometimes lonely role. By definition, leaders have to lead and that means showing everyone the way forward and then taking them all with you. Leadership is a much bigger job than any other, whether that’s a business, sports team or third sector organisation you’re leading.
Without enough support around you, it’s difficult to know if you’re on the right track or not. You can’t always rely on your team to give you the honest answers you need. That’s not because they don’t care, it’s because they don’t want to fall out with you and they don’t see things with the same width of vision you need to. There’s no one inside your organisation that’s focused solely on supporting you, not even you. And, however good you are, you can’t do your own leadership coaching.
With all the internal pressures, politics and people to manage, a bit of focused, external help can make a world of difference. There’s everything to gain from getting support and being fearless enough to accept it.
